29th Olympic Games


The 29th Olympic games were organised in Beijing during 8-24 August, 2008. As many 10,500 athletes from 204 countries participated in the Games. As per the medal tally. China clinched the largest number Gold Medals (51) following by the USA (26) and Russia (23). The total number of medals were however backed by the USA(110) with China taking 100 and Russia wining 72. India bettered its position compared to other Olympic Games by bagging one Gold and two Bronze medals. India figured at 50th place in medals tally of 81 countries who won medals.

India's Abhinav Bindra won Gold in shooting, while Sushil Kunmar and Vijendra Kumar each won Bronze in wrestling and boxing respectively
